Here's another Workshop Wednesday to catch up with what all the students are doing
The second years are still working towards their recoil escapements, and are progressing well. Depending on the design of their escapements, they have different size wheels and different shape pallets. This means each students may need to use a different size cutter for the escape wheel.

Thomas using the milling machine to cut wheels |
They have also used the laser cutter to mark out the pallets on gauge plate, which allows for a very high level of accuracy, and the marks are much easier to remove from the metal afterwards.
As you can see, no two are alike! |
Elsewhere in the workshop, Merlin has been making a (rather large) helical hairspring, as an experiment.
James has been working on a dial for his watch; hand pierced silver soldered to copper.
The first prototype dial |
Alfie and Ritchie have been working on watches:
Alfie refitting hands on a military pocket watch. |
Ritchie working on the keyless work of a college 6497 |
And lastly for today, Rosie has been working on a fusee platform clock
Adjusting beat: a delicate task! |
